Both not easily pinned down in their respective disciplines and visual art, Myriam Suchet and Nicoline van Harskamp met through their shared interest in pluralising languages; in Françaix and Englishes. On December 12^th, they will organize half a day at the Sorbonne Nouvelle, to explore some current issues in their work. There will be a remue méninges with a number of invited colleagues, followed by a public event. You are very excited to welcome you to both !

Côté site de recherche, il s’agit de rendre disponibles les contenus et les résultats d’une enquête qui porte sur le « s » d’en français pour révéler qu’il s’agit d’une marque de pluriel.
Côté machine à chercher, le désir est d’inventer une manière de penser-pratiquer-créer susceptible de se surprendre elle-même.

Nicoline van Harskamp is a visual artist whose work considers acts of language and solidarity. Her series Englishes and the online project Englishes MOOC are dedicated to the emancipation of “non-native” users of the English language. In her recent work Contagious Speech, she questions how the prevalence of virtual “screen talk” - conversation through devices connected to the internet - influences the nature of “real life” speech, as well as the power balance between languages. For this work, Nicoline synthesized her own voice, and learned about aspects of breath and voice in natural language processing and text-to-speech engines. This autumn and winter, Nicoline surveys prosodic factors like intonation, pitch and speed, in AI-generated speech, for a new work-in-progress. Her goal is to write and produce stage dialogues for human and “neural” performers.
