Summer School comments

Sofia Barco from University of Malaga, Spain
“The summer school opened my eyes to the contemporary scene. The schedule was logical for dividing my time between learning and visiting the city on my own or with the friends I made in class. The academic content was specific in each course and therefore really interesting and useful. It also gave me the opportunity to go to Avignon and attend performances that I still think of today. And of course, I feel grateful for the knowledge shared by that  the theatre professionals we met.”

Melissa Maramara From Ateneo de Manila University, Philippins
“The Sorbonne Nouvelle Theater Summer School was an experience of a lifetime. Living in Paris and Avignon really deepened our understanding and appreciation of the lessons in special theater topics taught by academics, practitioners and specialists. The cultural exchange with the French teachers and international students, and the mentor-led exposure to European theater inspired creative expressions of our own Filipino theater practices that we were able to share both in France and back home.”

Jan Rey Escanso From Ateneo de Manila University, Philippins
“I attended Sorbonne Nouvelle University’s Theatre Summer School on “Exploring the Actor” because it aligned with my interests as an artist, particularly on the role of an actor in the devising, writing and creation of a play. My favorite part of the program was our 1 week stay in Avignon for the Theater Festival. This immersion to French Theater was what made this program truly special. We were able to watch at least twelve plays, ranging from classical to postmodern theater. This program helped develop my knowledge on different methods and theories in acting and it made me discover different types of theater from different cultures.”

Erika Walter from the University of Cologne, Germany
“The theatre summer school at the Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris was an enriching experience for me and my studies. In classes competent Professors taught a variety of different topics and theories, which were used to analyse the productions we saw in Avignon. The summer school gave us a platform to discuss every production in detail and from different perspectives. Overall I was happy to participate.”
