Eva Mélot, diplômée d'une licence AEG, en poste à la Société Générale, revient sur son parcours.

  • Pouvez vous présenter votre parcours universitaire?

After completing a two-year preparatory course for an Engineering School (“Classe Préparatoires aux Grandes Ecoles”), and an intensive year of preparation for the ENAC Pilot School, I decided to undertake English and Business studies, having been also passionate about Languages. I had the opportunity to enter into the third-year of the Licence AEG at the University Sorbonne Nouvelle.
I chose this Licence because it offered a wide range of subjects (i.e. Accounting, UK & US Economy History, Marketing, Business Law) perfectly suiting my interests and needs, with a view to applying to a Masters degree.

In addition, a requirement of the Licence AEG was for the students to undertake a placement throughout the second semester.

Following a selection process, I had the opportunity to complete my internship in the procurement department at Airbus in Bristol. My placement allowed me to develop a variety of skills and an excellent understanding of the industry.

Following my placement I joined the University of Bristol to complete a Masters degree in Economics, Finance and Management in order to develop a better understanding of International Business.

Therefore thanks to the Licence AEG I had the opportunity to live, work and study in the UK.

  • Parlez nous de votre métier?

I am currently working for Societe Generale as a Risk Manager within the Structured Finance Middle Office and more particularly the Aircraft finance team. I started as an intern for 6 months, then worked as a contactor for another 6 months and was subsequently offered a permanent position in January 2013.

This aircraft finance team is in charge of monitoring, from a risk perspective, a portfolio of transactions with international clients (i.e. airlines). And more particularly managing credit agency role and liaising with borrowers throughout the life of the transaction (i.e. repayment period). It involves liaising with internal departments but also external shareholders.

  • Quels savoirs appris à la Sorbonne nouvelle mobilisez vous dans votre pratique professionnelle?

When I was a student at la Sorbonne Nouvelle I benefited from the excellent expertise of the lecturers. Students were often asked/challenged to work with a team, which was an excellent exercise. But also to search for information by themselves and more importantly understand the international news by constantly reading newspapers.

In addition studying at la Sorbonne Nouvelle significantly enabled me to enhance my business language proficiency in the English language as various lectures were taught in English.

  • Quels conseils donneriez vous aux étudiants de la Sorbonne nouvelle?

My advice to all students from Sorbonne Nouvelle is simple: if you have the opportunity to study or work abroad, do not hesitate!

It is the best way to « learn » or « perfect » a language.

Finally it is a lifetime experience that will allow you to develop skill set across a broad spectrum and learn about yourself.
