Commonwealth Essays and Studies

The Société d'Étude des Pays du Commonwealth / Society for the Study of Commonwealth Countries publishes two issues of Commonwealth Essays and Studies per year (an autumn theme issue and spring open-topic issue). The annual subscription of 24 euros covers both issues as well as shipping costs (14 euros each + shipping if ordered separately). The full subscription of 36 euros combines the 2 annual literature-oriented issues of Commonwealth Essays and Studies with the current issue of the civilisation-oriented Cultures of the Commonwealth. A separate subscription for Cultures of the Commonwealth [1 issue per year] is 13 euros. (See orders and subscriptions.)
     
Commonwealth Essays and Studies is a peer-reviewed journal of criticism devoted to the study of postcolonial literatures, in all periods and genres. We welcome submissions of articles, interviews, and reviews on literary topics relating to any area of the New Literatures in English. Translations are to be provided for citations in languages other than English. Submissions, which should not exceed 6000 words (including explanatory notes and Works Cited), should follow MLA guidelines for format (see The MLA Handbook, fifth edition, and our own stylesheet below.

Please submit one electronic copy by e-mail attachment and 2 hard copies of your essay, double-spaced, in 11-point font size, to Marta Dvorak, Editor, Commonwealth Essays and Studies, Institut du Monde Anglophone, Université Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris 3, 5 rue de l'École de Médecine, 75006 Paris, France (dvorakmarta@aol.com).

Submissions should include a short abstract of your essay (50-70 words) and be accompanied by a brief bio-bibliographical note (50-70 words), providing name, affiliation, student standing (if applicable), postal address, fax number, and e-mail address. Decisions regarding submissions can be expected by e-mail. All works accepted for publication must be available in electronic format.
