Université Sorbonne Nouvelle seeks to appoint a Postdoctoral researcher to work with Pr Raphaëlle Moine (Film Studies, IRCAV-EA 185, Université Sorbonne Nouvelle) on the collaborative research project AGE-C – Aging and Gender in European Cinema.

AGE-C – Aging and Gender in European Cinema is a four-year transnational research project funded by the Volkswagen Foundation and conducted by Goethe University Frankfurt, Università degli Studi di Udine, Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, King’s College London and Babes Bolayi University Cluj-Napoca. AGE-C studies how representations of aging, and starring roles for women over 60 in particular, inform notions of well-being in old age across Europe. AGE-C brings together established scholars with early career researchers to develop cultural gerontology as a new approach in film and media culture studies.

In the framework of AGE-C the Université Sorbonnne Nouvelle offers the following position:

Post-Doc (100%) for 48 months with a contract start date of February 1, 2023

The selected candidate will hold an excellent PhD in cinema studies or a closely related field and have a profile in gender studies, production studies, and/or digital methods. The successful candidate will conduct research on ageing and gender with a focus on French cinema and will coordinate and interact with the other members of the team. The successful candidate will organize workshops, conference and participate in training schemes. Advanced/native speaker-level French and English language skills are required; command of other European languages, particularly German, Italian, Spanish, Hungarian or Romanian, are an advantage.

The selected candidate will work as part of the team in all aspects of the research project. The ideal candidate will be expected to demonstrate capacity to liaise and collaborate with a variety of stakeholders within the abovementioned members of this collaborative project, related cultural institutions and the creative industries (particularly in France). The Postdoctoral researcher will be based at the Maison de la Recherche, Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, 4 rue des Irlandais, 75005 Paris, and will be attached to the following research center : Institut de Recherche sur le Cinéma et l’Audiovisuel (IRCAV), EA 185. Foreign travel will be required for research events organised at the abovementioned institutions where the five individual project units are based. 

Conditions:
-       Required degree : PhD or equivalent in in Film and/or Media Studies or a closely related field
-       Advanced/native linguistic skills in at least the following languages: French and English

Assessment Criteria:
-       Strong interest in gender studies, production studies, stardom and celebrity studies and/or digital methods
-       Evidence of academic research or professional practice in one or more of the above areas
-       Ability to liaise and collaborate with a wide variety of stakeholders such as education institutions, institutions, policy-makers and professionals in the creative industries particularly in the European context.
