Theme of the Conference

"Methods for linking Communication, Culture, Media and Society"

The 2019 conference will investigate the approaches, methodologies, objects, processes and phenomena that touch on or concern the relationship between communication, culture, media and society. What is the significance of communication and media for culture and society and everyday life, from both historical and contemporary perspectives? What are the new social and cultural trends which modify traditional mass media as well as digital media? By social and cultural trends we should understand the structures as well as the operations, relations, processes and practices that make up societies.

Without attempting to create an exhaustive list, it is possible to imagine reflections on the very existence of media, its interrelations, its relations with public spheres and forms of expression, the effects of its material presence, the transformations that govern and shape it.

The focus of this conference should not prevent contributions that do not strictly fit its theme, since a doctoral conference is above all an occasion for students to share their research projects, methodological and theoretical pursuits, and to discuss their own particular approach.

The 15th IGC invites PhD students and young scholars from all the five IGC partner universities and from different interests and backgrounds to report their research projects and share academic experiences in an interdisciplinary academic milieu. They should submit abstracts to the committee chairs from each university.
